You know, when we wanna think of a good story idea, sometimes our brain just don’t work right. So, what I do is, I grab them Tarot cards, them cards always help me come up with somethin’. Now, I ain’t no expert or nothin’, but these Tarot cards, they got all kinds of pictures on ’em that make you think. They kinda get your imagination goin’ in ways you never thought before.
So, how do we do this? Well, first off, you don’t need no fancy plan. Tarot ain’t about strict rules or somethin’ like that. Nah, it’s just to get your mind runnin’. If you wanna pull one card, that’s fine. If you feel like pullin’ three or even more, that’s fine too. It’s like makin’ a big ol’ soup — you throw in what you got, and sometimes you end up with somethin’ real tasty.
Start with a simple spread
Let me tell ya how I like to do it. First, I just shuffle them cards, thinkin’ about what kinda story I wanna tell. Then I lay down three cards. The first one is for the beginning of the story. The second one is for the middle part, and the third one, well, that’s how the whole thing ends. Easy, right? But the fun part is, the cards, they got all sorts of meanings, and it don’t always go the way you think it will.
- First card: This might be somethin’ like “The Fool.” Now, that don’t mean the story’s about a fool, it just means maybe your character is startin’ fresh, like a clean slate. They could be off on a new adventure or somethin’.
- Second card: Say you pull “The Tower.” Oh boy, things ain’t gonna go smooth, that’s for sure. Something’s gonna happen, shake things up, and your character’s world is gonna come crashin’ down.
- Third card: Maybe you get “The Star.” Now, that’s hope, baby. After all that mess, your character sees a light at the end of the tunnel, somethin’ to keep goin’ for.
See? Just like that, you got the bones of a story. You didn’t have to sit around scratchin’ your head all day. The cards, they do half the work for ya.
Get deeper into your characters
Now, if you wanna go deeper, you can use them Tarot cards to build up your characters. Maybe you wanna know more about who they are, where they come from, or what makes ’em tick. You just shuffle them cards again and pull one for each question. Like, “What’s their biggest fear?” or “What’s their dream?”
One time, I pulled the “Death” card when I was thinkin’ ’bout a character, and I thought, “Oh no, this one’s gonna die!” But then I remembered, the Death card don’t always mean that. It could mean a big change is comin’ for that character, like they gotta leave somethin’ behind to grow. That’s how you start buildin’ a character that’s more than just flat words on a page.
Building a world with Tarot
You can also use Tarot cards to build the world your story’s in. Let’s say you pull a card like “The Emperor.” Well, that could mean your story takes place in a land with a strong ruler, like a king or queen. Or maybe you pull “The Moon.” That might mean your world is full of secrets and strange things lurkin’ in the shadows. The possibilities are endless!
If you pull enough cards, you can start seein’ patterns. Maybe your story world is dark and mysterious, or maybe it’s full of hope and light. It all depends on what cards you get and how you feel about ’em.
Don’t be afraid to mix things up
Look, there ain’t no right or wrong way to do this. Sometimes I like to pull just one card and stare at it for a bit, thinkin’ about what kind of story it could tell. Other times, I pull a whole bunch of ’em and see where they take me. Like I said before, it’s like makin’ soup. Sometimes you gotta throw in a little extra spice to make it just right.
So, next time you’re stuck, don’t be afraid to grab your Tarot deck and see what pops up. You might surprise yourself. Them cards, they got a way of sparkin’ your imagination and helpin’ you come up with somethin’ fresh. Before you know it, you’ll have a story that’s all ready to be told.
Remember, it’s all about havin’ fun and lettin’ your creativity flow. The cards are just there to help you along the way.
