Totem Armor’s a special kinda spell, one that can save yer critters from bein’ destroyed when things get rough. See, when a creature gets enchanted by Totem Armor, it won’t just go kaput when somethin’ bad happens, like when a spell or a big ol’ attack tries to wreck it. Instead, the creature loses the Totem Armor enchantment, and that’s that. The critter itself stays safe and sound, still in the game. Ain’t that somethin’?
But now, don’t go thinkin’ it’s a cure-all. This armor doesn’t protect against everything. If yer creature gets tossed off the battlefield in a way that ain’t about destroyin’, like if it’s sacrificed, bounced, or banished, then Totem Armor ain’t gonna help. It only works when yer creature’s about to be destroyed. Y’know, like if an opponent tries to deal enough damage to kill yer critter or casts a spell that says “destroy.” That’s when Totem Armor comes into play, savin’ yer creature from the grave.
Now, this whole idea of Totem Armor was around back in the days of Rise of the Eldrazi. I heard tell that it was originally called Umbra Armor. Same thing, just different name. They didn’t want folks thinkin’ it was tied too closely to the Eldrazi or that particular world, so they went and gave it a new name. Totem Armor’s a bit more general, so now it works in all sorts of settings.
You might also notice somethin’ called “Indestructible.” Well, that’s a different thing altogether. An Indestructible creature, if it’s tough enough, can’t be destroyed at all, no matter what. But Totem Armor, dear, it’s a bit different. It ain’t stop the creature from gettin’ destroyed outright, no. It just saves the critter by takin’ away the Totem Armor, which means the creature’s still alive. So, if yer opponent’s tryin’ to knock out yer creature, and it’s got Totem Armor, that armor’ll go poof and leave yer critter still standin’. Not bad, eh?
One more thing to know ’bout Totem Armor is that the effect is automatic. It ain’t up to you whether the creature dies or not. If the enchanted creature’s about to be destroyed, the Totem Armor kicks in, and boom, the armor’s gone. Your critter stays alive. Simple as that.
So, if yer playin’ Magic and you want to protect yer creatures, Totem Armor is one handy tool to have in yer deck. But remember, it ain’t gonna save ya from everything, just the things that’d destroy yer critters. Keep that in mind, and you’ll be ready for the next battle.
