Well, let me tell ya, talkin’ ’bout them protruding features on a cliff, you know, the things that stick out. Folks got all sorts of fancy names for ’em, like “promontory” and “outcrop,” sounds like somethin’ you’d catch a cold from, if ya ask me. But it’s just a big ol’ rock, really.
Now, I ain’t no geologist or nothin’, but I seen my share of cliffs. Used to live near them hills, ya see. And them cliffs, they got all sorts of bumps and jiggles on ’em. Some stick out over the water, like they’re tryin’ to get a better look at the fish. Them’s the promontories, I guess. Makes a good place to stand and yell at the kids, if they’re bein’ too loud down by the shore.
- Outcrops: Them’s just rocks pokin’ out, ya know? Like a zit on the face of the cliff. Sometimes they’re big, sometimes they’re small. Just depends on how the good Lord made ’em, I reckon.
- Promontories: Now, these are the fancy ones. They stick way out, like a nose on a face, but bigger. Real big. And they usually got water all around ’em. Good for fishin’, I hear, but I ain’t much of a fisherwoman myself. Too much sittin’ around.
- Overhangs: These are a bit scary. They’re rocks that stick out from the top of the cliff, like they’re gonna fall on your head any minute. I stay away from them, thank you very much.
You see, the way I figure it, these cliffs, they been around a long time. Longer than me, that’s for sure. And the wind and the rain, they been beatin’ on ’em all that time. Wearin’ ’em down, bit by bit. And that’s how you get them protruding features. Just nature doin’ its thing, ya know? Ain’t nothin’ more to it than that.
Some folks, they like to climb on them things. Crazy if you ask me. Risking their necks for a view. I get a good enough view from my porch, thank you kindly. But I guess everyone’s got their own way of havin’ fun. Just don’t expect me to join ya.
And them crossword puzzle folks, they love askin’ about these protruding features on a cliff. Always tryin’ to trick ya with their fancy words. But it’s all the same thing, really. Just a rock stickin’ out. Don’t let ’em fool ya.
So, next time you see a cliff, take a good look at it. See them bumps and jiggles? Them’s the protruding features. And now you know what they are, even if you can’t pronounce them fancy names. Just remember, it’s all just nature doin’ its thing. And that’s a beautiful thing, ain’t it?
Why are these protruding features important? Well, I ain’t sure they are important to folks like you and me, but they sure are important to the birds and the critters. Birds like to nest on them, and the critters like to hide in the cracks and crevices. So, I guess they got their purpose, just like everything else in this world.
And you know, sometimes, when I’m sittin’ on my porch, lookin’ at them hills, I think about them cliffs and them protruding features. And I think about how long they been there, and how long they gonna be there after I’m gone. It kinda puts things in perspective, ya know? Makes you realize how small you are, and how big the world is. And that ain’t such a bad thing to think about every now and then.
So, that’s my two cents on them protruding features on a cliff. Ain’t nothin’ too fancy, but it’s the truth, as I see it. And that’s all that matters, ain’t it?
