Now, the bass… that’s the low rumble under everything else. It’s like the ground shaking when a train goes by. You don’t always hear it right off, but you feel it. It makes the whole thing… heavy. That’s why they call it heavy metal, I guess.
And the singing! Well, it ain’t always singing, is it? Sometimes it’s more like shouting, or growling, or somethin’. Like a bear with a sore tooth. But it fits, you know? It goes with all that loud noise and banging.
Some smarty-pants folks, they talk about compression and EQ and all that fancy stuff. They say it makes the music sound better, louder, clearer. I don’t know nothin’ about that. All I know is, it either sounds good or it don’t. And good heavy metal, well, it makes you wanna jump around and bang your head. Or maybe just tap your foot, if you’re old like me.
I heard tell of some bands gettin’ in trouble for their music. Said it made some young folks do bad things. Can you believe that? Blaming music for stuff like that. Seems silly to me. Music is just music. It ain’t gonna make you do nothin’ you don’t wanna do.
Then there’s this hard rock, which is kinda like metal, but not quite. It’s got guitars too, but they’re not always so angry. And the drums, they ain’t always so loud. It’s like…metal’s wild younger brother. A little less crazy, maybe.
There’s these fellas, Joey Sturgis and Nolly Getgood, they say they know all about mixin’ this metal music. Got videos and stuff teachin’ folks how to do it. Probably got all them fancy gadgets and knobs and whatnot. Sounds complicated. I reckon I’ll just stick to listenin’.
And there are plugins for the mastering, whatever that means. It’s for makin’ the music even better, I guess. They make those guitars sound heavier, the drums sound louder and the vocals…well, whatever you call that singin’…sound clearer. There’s a whole bunch of stuff for mixing, like setting the sounds just right. It’s like cookin’ a big ol’ pot of stew, I guess. Gotta get all the ingredients just right to make it taste good.
Some folks say this kind of music is good for concerts. Gets the young folks all riled up and excited. Makes ‘em jump and shout and have a good time. And why not? It’s got a catchy beat and those power chords that just make you wanna move. I remember back in the day when music made folks dance. Maybe this metal stuff ain’t so different after all.
So, that’s my take on this heavy metal low brass feature thing. Loud guitars, pounding drums, a rumbling bass, and someone yellin’ into a microphone. It ain’t for everyone, I reckon, but some folks sure do love it. And that’s just fine. To each their own, I always say.
