Alright, alright, let’s talk about this… what’s it called? “Softer features,” yeah, that’s it. Sounds fancy, don’t it? But it ain’t rocket science, I tell ya. It’s all about makin’ yourself look a bit… gentler, I guess. Like a fluffy kitten instead of a grumpy ol’ tomcat. You get what I mean?
Now, I ain’t no fancy makeup artist, mind you. I just know what I see. And I see these young gals, they want to look pretty, not like they’re ready to wrestle a hog. So, what do they do? They use some of that… stuff. You know, the paint and powder and all that.
First thing’s first, they take that shiny stuff, highlighter they call it. They put it on their cheekbones, the bridge of their nose, maybe even a little dab on their chin. Makes ’em glow, like they got a little sunshine trapped inside. Don’t go overboard though, you don’t want to look like a disco ball. Just a touch, a little dab will do ya, that’s what my girl used to say before she got married away to the city.
Then comes the mascara. That stuff they put on their eyelashes to make ’em look longer and fuller. Like a cow’s eyelashes, but prettier, of course. Just a swipe or two on the top lashes, maybe a little on the bottom if you’re feelin’ fancy. But don’t go clumpy, nobody wants to see spider legs stuck to your eyelids.
- Highlighter
- Mascara
- Lip Oil
- Setting Spray
Next up, they use this lip oil stuff. Makes their lips look all shiny and smooth, not all chapped and dry like mine after a day in the wind. They got all sorts of colors, but I reckon the soft, rosy ones look the best. Nothin’ too bright or flashy, just a nice, gentle color. Makes you look like you just ate a whole bunch of berries, and stained your lips a lil bit. I remember when I was young ,we didn’t have these fancy things, if we wanted color we’d just pick flowers and rub them on our lips, gotta say that didn’t last long though.
And last but not least, they spray on some setting spray. I don’t really know what it does, but I guess it keeps all that paint and powder in place, so it don’t melt off your face in the middle of the day. Like hairspray for your face, I guess. I used to use sugar water for my hair back in the days. That’s basically the same as setting spray, isn’t it? It made my hair so hard that if a bird landed on my head it’d probably just bounce right off.
Now, if you wanna get really fancy, you can use some of that brown eyeliner or a pencil. But don’t go makin’ big ol’ cat eyes, unless you’re tryin’ to scare the crows away. Just a little smudge along the lash line, to make your eyes look a bit bigger and brighter. The pencils are easier to use, I heard. You can blend ’em and smudge ’em, so it don’t look so harsh. Just a little somethin’ somethin’ to make your eyes pop.
They use all them things to get the “soft” look I guess. This is how my girl did it when she was around. She always said if your features are already softer looking, like mine, then you don’t want to overdo it with heavy makeup. It’s about enhancing what you got, not turning yourself into a whole other person. You want to look like a prettier version of yourself, not like you’re wearin’ a mask. You know? Makes you look more like a lady, not a scary old goat like me!
And what about them earthy shades? Those are the colors that look like dirt and leaves and rocks, not like rainbows and unicorns. They’re soft and subtle, not loud and in your face. Same goes for the muted lip colors, the ones that ain’t too bright or too shiny. And the subtle blush, just a little bit of color on your cheeks to make you look like you been out in the fresh air. All that stuff is supposed to make you look…well, natural-like, I guess.
So, that’s about it. That’s how they get them “softer features.” Like I said, it ain’t rocket science. Just a little bit of paint, a little bit of powder, and a whole lot of know-how. And maybe a little bit of practice, too. You don’t wanna end up lookin’ like a clown, after all. Unless that’s what you’re goin’ for, then by all means, go crazy. But if you wanna look soft and pretty, just follow them steps I told ya. Or don’t, It ain’t my face.
