Well, well, well, look what we have here, tarot card sleeves, huh? I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout these things the other day. Said it’s for protectin’ them fancy tarot cards. I don’t use ’em myself. I just use my cards as they are. Never had no problem.
But I guess some people, they like to keep things all nice and tidy. And them cards, they can get all worn out if you use ’em a lot. My friend Mary, she’s got a deck older than me, and those cards, they’re startin’ to show their age. So, maybe these tarot card sleeves ain’t such a bad idea.
What’s the big deal?
I seen these sleeves, they’re like little plastic jackets for your cards. Clear, mostly. I don’t know what’s the use of colored sleeves. Make it harder to see the cards, I reckon. They say it keeps the dirt and the grime off. And maybe it stops ’em from gettin’ all bent and scratched up. Some folks are serious about their tarot cards. Treat ’em like gold, they do.
There is this brand, Gamegenic, I think that’s what it’s called. It seems they make tarot card sleeves. Same as the ones for them games the young’uns play. I saw a pack down at the store the other day. It said “tarot-sized.”
Why use sleeves on tarot cards?
Now, I don’t use these sleeves. But I can see why some folks might. If you’re one of them people who reads tarot cards for others, maybe you want to keep your deck lookin’ good. Keeps ’em lookin’ professional, I suppose. Makes people think you know what you’re doin’.
- Keep cards clean.
- Protect from scratches.
- Make the cards look good.
And then there are them folks who collect tarot cards. Some of them decks, they’re worth a pretty penny, I hear. You wouldn’t want to get your grubby fingers all over a rare deck, now would you? So, you put ’em in these sleeves, keep ’em safe and sound. Like puttin’ your prized pig in a fancy pen.
Are tarot card sleeves worth it?
They say even the cheap tarot card sleeves are better than nothing. Keep them cards in good shape. Cards are not cheap, you know. These tarot cards, you can buy them everywhere. Even on that new thing, the ebay. But if you buy them, you better take care of them.
Now, some folks say these sleeves, they make the cards harder to shuffle. Make ’em all slippery and whatnot. I can see that. But others, they say you get used to it. Just takes a little practice. Like breakin’ in a new pair of shoes.
Clear sleeves or colored sleeves?
I only saw clear sleeves. Never used them, but I saw them. Seems to me, the clear ones are the way to go. You want to see the pictures on the cards, don’t you? What’s the point of havin’ a pretty deck if you can’t see it? Unless you are those people who have a lot of decks, and just want to keep some for collection, not for using. Then maybe colored sleeves make sense.
But then again, some folks like to use colored sleeves. They say it adds to the mystery, or somethin’. Makes it harder for the person gettin’ the readin’ to see the cards. I don’t know about all that. Seems like a lot of fuss to me.
Just do what feels right.
I suppose there are many different kinds of sleeves. Different sizes, different materials. Some are thicker, some are thinner. Some are smooth, some are textured. It’s like pickin’ out a new dress. So many choices! You just use the deck as it is, or you use tarot card sleeves, it is up to you. If using these sleeves makes you feel good, then go for it.
At the end of the day, it’s all about what you like. If you want to use these tarot card sleeves, go ahead. If you don’t, that’s fine too. Just do what feels right to you. Like my mama used to say, “There’s more than one way to skin a cat.” And I reckon that goes for tarot cards, too.
It is your cards, your readings, your choices. These sleeves, they are just a tool. Like a hoe in the garden or a rolling pin in the kitchen. Use it if it helps, don’t if it don’t. That’s all there is to it, really. Ain’t nothin’ to get all worked up about. Now, where did I put my knitting needles…?
Remember one thing. No matter what you use, tarot card sleeves or not, take good care of your cards. Like any good tool, treat them with respect, and they will serve you well. Don’t just throw them around, don’t get them wet. And, for heaven’s sake, don’t let the dog chew on ’em! My neighbor’s dog, he got a hold of her cards once, and it was a mess. A real mess.
