This here book talkin’ ’bout them runes. What are runes? Well, they ain’t just letters, they some kinda magic symbols, I reckon. Old folks used ’em long time ago. Folks say they got power, can help you out, maybe even tell ya the future. I don’t know ’bout all that, but it’s interestin’ stuff.
There are lotsa books on these runes. Many books say different things. You want a good one, you gotta look around. Some books, they just hard to read, you know? Too many big words. But some, they explain it real simple like. Those are the ones I like.
Learnin’ ‘Bout Runes
These runes books, they tell ya what each rune means. Like, there’s one called “Fehu.” That one’s ’bout money, bein’ rich. Then there’s “Uruz,” that’s like a wild bull, strong and tough. Each one got its own thing.
- Fehu – That’s for money, like I said.
- Uruz – Strong like a bull.
- Thurisaz – That’s a tricky one, like a thorn.
- Ansuz – That’s ’bout talkin’, wisdom.
- Raidho – That’s ’bout travelin’, journeys.
- Kenaz – That’s like a torch, lightin’ things up.
- Gebo – That’s ’bout gifts and givin’.
- Wunjo – That’s ’bout bein’ happy.
There are more. A whole bunch more. There are more than twenty of them rune things. They call the whole set “Futhark.” That’s a funny word, ain’t it? It’s just the first few runes put together. Like how “alphabet” is the first two Greek letters. I ain’t no expert, but that’s what the book said.
Pickin’ a Good Rune Book
Now, if you wanna learn ’bout runes, you need a good book. Don’t just grab any old thing. Some of them books, they just confuse ya. Look for one that’s easy to understand. Like it’s talkin’ to ya plain and simple.
Some books, they just show ya the runes, tell ya what they mean. Others, they tell ya how to use ’em. Like, how to throw ’em and read ’em. That’s like tellin’ your fortune, I guess. You throw three of ’em down. The first one is what’s goin’ on. The middle one is what’s blockin’ your way. The third one is what you should do. I tried it once. It said I was gonna have a problem with my chickens. I don’t think that will be an issue any more though.
There’s one book I saw, it was called somethin’ like “Runes for Beginners.” That sounds like a good one, don’t it? Probably explains things real easy. I reckon beginners need things explained easy. There is also another book about using runes for magic. I ain’t sure about that, but if that is what you are interested in then that is the book for you. There are books about the history of runes. Where they came from and all that. That is all very interesting. Even I like readin’ about that stuff.
Using Runes for Magic
Some folks, they use these runes for magic. They say each one’s got its own kinda power. Like, you can use ’em to make things happen. I don’t know if I believe all that, but some folks swear by it. There are runes for luck. At least six of them things are for luck. Fehu, Raido, Gebo, Wunjo, Jera, and Pertho. That is a lot of luck.
They say you can put ’em on things, like charms. Or you can draw ’em in the dirt. I guess it’s like prayin’, in a way. You’re askin’ for somethin’ to happen, and you’re usin’ the runes to help it along.
Some books tell ya how to do all that. How to use the runes for spells and such. I ain’t never tried it myself. I’m a little scared of messin’ with things I don’t understand. But if you’re braver than me, maybe you can give it a try.
Why Read About Runes?
Now, you might be askin’, why should I even bother with these runes books? Well, it’s interestin’, that’s for sure. It’s like learnin’ ’bout a secret language. And who knows, maybe there is somethin’ to it. Maybe these runes really do have power.
Even if they don’t, it’s still fun to learn ’bout ’em. It’s like a little window into the past. Back when folks believed in different things. Back when the world was a more mysterious place.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ new to read, somethin’ a little different, why not give a runes book a try? You might just learn somethin’. And who knows, you might even find a little magic in your life. I know I did. Them runes, they told me to plant tomatoes this year. Best tomatoes I ever had!
These runes can be numbers too. It is not very common, but sometimes it happens. Like the Uruz u rune can be the number 2, and the Fehu f rune can be number 1. It is all very confusing. But interesting.
Just don’t go gettin’ all mixed up. These runes are serious business, so I hear. You got to learn them the right way or you can get yourself in a mess of trouble. I heard a story one time about someone usin’ the wrong rune for somethin’. They ended up with a whole bunch of bad luck. So you best be careful with these things. Best to stick to a good book to learn you somethin’ about them.
