Alright, so I’ve been messing around with Veigar in ARAM, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. This little dude can be an absolute monster if you play him right, but man, it took me a while to figure out the best way to build him.
First off, I tried a bunch of different rune setups. I started with the basic stuff, you know, just grabbing whatever the recommended page threw at me. Big mistake! I was getting blown up faster than a balloon at a birthday party. Then I started experimenting. Dark Harvest seemed like a good idea, since you’re constantly stacking those passive procs, and boy, does it pay off in the late game. You become an absolute nuke.

The Runes
So, for runes, here’s what I found works best:
- Domination tree as the primary, obviously.
- Dark Harvest is the keystone. Trust me on this one.
- Taste of Blood because you need that little bit of sustain, as you are kind of fragile.
- Eyeball Collection for even more AP.
- Ultimate Hunter is my choice, since Veigar’s ult is pretty much the core of his existence.
- Then, for the secondary tree, I went with Precision.
- Presence of Mind helps with those early mana issues.
- Legend: Tenacity is a lifesaver. Nobody likes getting chain CC’d to death.

The Build
Now, onto the items. This is where things get interesting. I used to rush Rod of Ages, thinking it was the best option for that sweet, sweet scaling. But honestly, it felt kinda slow. I was always behind the curve. Then I tried out Archangel’s Staff and well, things started to change. I felt like I could handle myself in early skirmishes much better.
Then after that I started experimenting with Sorcerer’s Shoes, and the extra magic penetration is definitely noticeable. After that, it’s pretty standard. Rabadon’s Deathcap is a must-have. You gotta get that massive AP boost, especially since my runes are already giving me a decent boost.
So, my typical build path ends up looking something like this:
- Start with Tear of the Goddess and some potions.
- Rush Archangel’s Staff.
- Sorcerer’s Shoes for the magic pen.
- Rabadon’s Deathcap to become a tiny, but mighty, death machine.
- Then it depends on the enemy team, I might build a Void Staff if they’re stacking magic resist, or maybe a Zhonya’s Hourglass if I need some survivability, or Morellonomicon if they have lots of healing.

The Gameplan
Early game, just focus on farming and stacking that passive. Don’t be afraid to use your abilities to last hit minions. Every stack counts! Play safe, poke when you can, and try not to die. Your goal is to survive and scale.
Mid game, you should start to feel your power spike. Look for opportunities to catch people out with your Event Horizon (E) and then delete them with your full combo. Don’t be afraid to roam and help your team secure objectives.
Late game, you’re a monster. One well-placed ultimate can delete a squishy target. Just be careful not to get caught out of position, because you’re still pretty fragile. Stick with your team, land those cages, and watch the enemy team melt.
I tried lots of other items and runes, but this is what felt best to me. It let me scale up and become that late-game beast that Veigar is meant to be. I lost count of how many games I turned around just by getting a good cage and one-shotting someone. Give it a try, and let me know what you think!
