Okay, so, I got this idea the other day to make my own tarot cards. You know, personalize them and stuff. I decided to go ahead and try printing them out myself cause why not? It sounded fun, and I thought it’d be cool to have a deck that’s totally unique.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to figure out what I was going to print these cards on. Regular paper is obviously way too flimsy. I mean, it would just fall apart after a couple of shuffles. No good.
So, I did a bit of digging around and found out that cardstock is the way to go. Apparently, it’s a “big deal” when it comes to printing cards. People online were saying that around 300 gsm (that’s grams per square meter, who knew?) is a solid choice. It’s thick enough to not feel cheap but not so thick that you can’t shuffle them properly. Also, I learned that you can choose between a matte or glossy finish. I went with matte because it felt more…mystical? I guess. I just went to a local store and picked up a pack of 300 gsm matte cardstock. Easy.
Printing
Next up, the actual printing. I wasn’t about to hand-draw 78 cards, no way. So I found some designs online that I liked, downloaded them. My printer at home is nothing fancy, just a regular inkjet. I adjusted the settings to the highest quality possible, made sure to select the right paper type and all that jazz. It took a bit of time, and some ink was wasted on the way, but it was worth it, and the results were nice, actually!
Cutting and Finishing
Once I had all the cards printed, came the cutting part. This was a bit tedious, I won’t lie. I used a ruler and a cutter to make sure the edges were straight. It took a while, but hey, it was kind of therapeutic in a way. You know, just focusing on one thing and getting it done. Some folks online mentioned using a paper cutter, which probably would have been faster, but I didn’t have one of those lying around. After they were all cut out, they looked pretty legit! I was genuinely surprised at how well they turned out.
The Result
So, yeah, now I have my own, self-printed tarot deck! It’s not perfect, of course. Some of the cuts are probably a little off, and the colors might not be as vibrant as a professionally printed deck. But, it’s mine, and I made it. I’ve used them a few times already, and they shuffle surprisingly well. Plus, it’s just cool to have something that you’ve created yourself, you know?
If you’re thinking about printing your own tarot cards, I’d say go for it. It’s a fun little project, and you end up with something unique. Just make sure you get the right paper, take your time with the cutting, and don’t expect perfection. It’s all about the process, right? Also, I found a local print shop that will do it for you, but where is the fun in that, right?
