Today, I messed around with building a little pool in my backyard. I’ve always wanted one, and I finally decided to take the plunge, so to speak. I didn’t really have a solid plan, just a general idea of what I wanted it to look like. I started by digging a big hole. Man, that was way harder than I thought it would be. My back is killing me!
After what felt like forever, I had a decent-sized hole. Then came the tricky part: making it all smooth and level. I used some tools, a shovel, and a level to try and get it right, but it was a real pain. I spent hours just trying to get the bottom somewhat flat and even. There were some big rocks, and I had to get my neighbor, to help me get them out.
Then I started thinking about how to make the walls. I decided to go with some simple concrete blocks. Stacking them was kind of like building with giant Legos, except way heavier and way less fun. I got pretty good at laying them down, but it took a while to get them all lined up and looking nice.
Once the walls were up, I had to figure out how to make them waterproof. I used some waterproofing stuff. I slapped it on, hoping for the best. And it was a mess. I really should have looked up more about this earlier.
The next step was adding some features to make it look a bit fancier. I built a little step along one side, which was surprisingly difficult. Getting the shape right and making sure it was sturdy took some time. But it sure looks cool!
Then I started filling it with water. It took forever. I used a simple garden hose and it felt like it took days to get it full. I started to question my life choices, to be honest.
Finally, after a lot of work, the pool was finished. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It has a kind of “rustic” charm to it, I guess. And the water is cold. Maybe too cold right now, but it is refreshing.
Here are the things that I added as features:
- Steps: I made a small step area on one side.
- Shape: It’s not a perfect rectangle, more like a wonky square, but it works.
- Concrete Walls: Simple but effective, I guess.
I definitely learned a lot from this project. Maybe I should have done some more research beforehand. But hey, it was a fun experience, and now I have a pool! And if I can build a pool, I think you can too! Just be prepared for a lot of hard work and maybe a few surprises along the way.
