Mini Totem Pole: Whats the Deal? Quick and Easy Guide for Beginners and Collectors!
Okay, so I got this idea the other day while I was sawing up some fallen poplar limbs into rough shapes for carving. I was making these little totem poles, and I stumbled upon a neat way to package them. It’s pretty simple, really.
First off, I cut out a section of the limb, you know, just a regular chunk of wood. I made sure it’s a bit longer than the totem pole itself, so there’s some wiggle room.
Then, I sliced that chunk in half, straight down the middle. This is where the mini totem pole is gonna fit snugly. I made sure to clean up the inside a little so it’s smooth and doesn’t scratch up the carving.
Next, I put the totem pole in between those two halves, just like a wooden sandwich. It’s a perfect fit! I might use a little bit of padding to ensure the totem pole is well protected.
- Finding the right size stick was the first thing.
- Cutting it to the right length took some doing.
- It takes some skill to make a totem pole.
Some Stuff I Noticed
I found out that the figure at the bottom of a totem pole is usually the most important one. And since totem poles are thicker at the base, that bottom figure is often the biggest, too.
So, there you have it! That’s how I made and packaged my mini totem pole. It’s a fun little project, and it is a great way to learn about and respect the cultural history of First Nations.
