How to read a runes set: A simple guide and common mistakes to avoid in runes reading.

Today I want to talk about the runes set, it’s kinda cool, like tarot cards but it is not the same thing, at least that’s what I learned.

So, first, I got myself a set of runes. There are so many kinds out there, but I just picked one that looked nice to me. And they said it has 24 runes in total, each with its own meaning and stuff. Those runes are also divided into three groups, each with eight, and they call each group “aett”. I thought that was pretty neat.

After I got my runes, I needed to “cleanse” them. Sounds weird, I know, but basically, I just left them out in the sunlight for a few hours. Some people do other things, like put them in salt or smoke them, but the sunlight seemed the easiest to me. Once they were all cleansed, it was time to start learning what they mean.

There are tons of books and websites about this, so I just started reading. Each rune has a name and a sound, and it represents some concept or idea. Like, one rune means “wealth,” and another means “journey.” And they told me the first eight runes are ruled by Freyr and Freyja, who are gods of love or something, and battle. That was a bit much for me, but hey, it’s interesting.

Once I felt like I kinda knew what the runes meant, I tried doing a “reading.” Basically, you ask a question, and then you pull out some runes, and their meanings are supposed to give you an answer. You can pull out one rune, or three, or even more. I decided to start with three ’cause it seemed like a good number.

So here’s how I did it:

  • I put all the runes in a little bag.
  • I closed my eyes and thought about my question.
  • Then, I pulled out three runes and laid them out in front of me.

Here is how I laid them out

The first rune on the right is supposed to be the overview of the situation. The second one in the middle is the challenge, and the third one on the left is a possible course of action. So they should be in the order 3, 2, 1. It’s kinda like a little story that the runes are telling you. But they told me it is not fortune-telling or predicting the future, I think that made sense.

I’m still not sure if I’m doing it right, but it’s been fun so far. It’s like learning a new language or something. And it’s kinda cool to think that people have been using these symbols for thousands of years to try to understand the world around them.

Anyway, that’s my experience with runes so far. If anyone else has tried this, I’d love to hear about it!
