Hey everyone, so I’ve been messing around with this pothos plant lately, trying to make it look all fancy like those Instagram posts, you know? I decided to try my hand at a pothos totem, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey.
First off, I got this basic pothos, nothing special, just your average, run-of-the-mill plant. I watered it like I usually do, just a bit when the soil feels dry. Then came the fun part – making the totem. I grabbed a moss pole from the garden store, the kind you can soak in water. I soaked it real good, squeezed out the extra water, and stuck it in the pot with the pothos.
Now, here’s where I learned a thing or two. Training the vines to climb wasn’t as easy as I thought. I started by gently wrapping some of the longer vines around the pole, trying to encourage them to latch on. I used some soft plant ties to hold them in place, nothing too tight, just enough to guide them in the right direction.
- Watering: Just a splash whenever the top of the soil felt dry. I didn’t want to overdo it.
- Feeding: I gave it some regular houseplant fertilizer every month or so, not too much just enough to help it grow.
- Light: I kept it in a bright spot, but not in direct sunlight, ’cause I heard that can scorch the leaves, and nobody wants that.
- Training: This was the tricky part, gently guiding the vines up the totem and tying them loosely.
Here’s a little breakdown of what I did:
It took some time, but slowly but surely, the pothos started to climb. I kept adjusting the ties, adding new ones as the plant grew, and removing any leaves that looked a bit yellow or damaged. It’s kind of like training a puppy, you gotta be patient and consistent.
After a few weeks, I started to see some real progress. The vines were actually clinging to the moss pole on their own, and new leaves were sprouting all over the place. It was pretty cool to see it all come together. The totem was starting to look lush and green, just like I imagined.
Honestly, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were times when I thought the plant was gonna give up, or I’d accidentally snap a vine, but hey, that’s part of the learning process, right? It’s all about trial and error, figuring out what works and what doesn’t.
So, if you’re thinking about trying a pothos totem, I’d say go for it! It’s a fun little project, and it’s super satisfying to see your plant thriving. Just remember to be patient, give it some love, and don’t be afraid to experiment a little. You might surprise yourself with what you can create!
