So, I saw these totem candles online the other day and thought, “Hey, those look pretty cool, I gotta try making one myself!” So I did, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience.
First, I went online and found a DIY totem candle kit. Seemed easy enough, right? The kit arrived, and I cleared a space on my kitchen table – my usual crafting spot. I unpacked everything: wax blocks in different colors, a wick, and a small metal needle, which I assumed was important. The instructions were there, and I made sure to read them over a couple of times before I even touched anything. Better safe than sorry, you know?
I started by deciding on the color order for my totem. I laid out the wax blocks, moving them around until I had a pattern I liked. Then, following the instructions, I used the metal needle to poke a hole through the center of each wax block. This was a bit trickier than I expected, as the wax was pretty solid. But I managed to get it done without breaking any of the blocks, thankfully.
Once all the blocks had holes, I threaded the wick through them, starting from the top. It was a bit like making a colorful, waxy shish kebab, to be honest. With the wick in place, I made sure it was centered and stood up straight. It is a candle, after all.
With the candle assembled, I found a suitable heat-resistant holder – don’t want to set my table on fire! I carefully placed the totem candle in it, and with a mix of excitement and a bit of nervousness, I lit the wick.
It worked! The candle burned nicely, with the flame casting a warm glow around the room. I watched as the wax slowly melted, the colors blending together a little at the edges. It was pretty mesmerizing, if I do say so myself. And you know what? This little project really brightened up my day. It’s amazing how making something with your own hands can bring such a sense of accomplishment and joy.
