Now, I didn’t have a giant log lying around, so I couldn’t make a real, life-sized totem pole. But I did have some cardboard boxes from a recent online shopping spree. Perfect! I started cutting them up and shaping them into something resembling a pole. It was a bit of a mess, honestly, with cardboard and tape everywhere. But hey, it’s the effort that counts, right?
Adding the Details
Once I had the basic shape, I started working on the animals. This was the fun part. I ripped up some old newspapers and magazines, anything with colors I liked. Then I started pasting them onto the cardboard, trying to bring my wolf and other animals to life. It was kinda like making a collage. My wolf ended up with a mix of gray and black fur, thanks to a newspaper article about a storm. I added red for the eyes and mouth. You know, to make it look fierce.

The other animals got their own colors too. The bear turned out brown and bulky, the eagle got some white and brown feathers, and the salmon ended up surprisingly shiny with silver and blue scales. I used bottle caps for the eyes, it gave them a kind of pop-out look. My wife thought it was a bit strange, but I liked it.
The Final Touches
After everything was dry – which took forever, by the way – I stood my cardboard totem pole up. It was a bit wobbly, but it stood! I even added some string around the top to make it look like it was tied together, just like the real ones. I placed it in my living room, right by the window. It’s not exactly a traditional masterpiece, but it’s mine.
So yeah, that’s how I spent my day – making a totem pole with a wolf on top. It was a fun little project, and it got me thinking about all the stories and meanings behind these amazing creations. Maybe I’ll try making another one someday, but next time, I might use something a bit sturdier than cardboard. Who knows, I might even get my hands on a real piece of wood!
