Alright, so the other day I was messing around in League of Legends, trying out some ARAM, you know, just for kicks. I ended up playing Cho’Gath, which I don’t usually do. I was like, “Hmm, what runes should I even use for this big guy in ARAM?”
So I did what anyone would do – I hit up the internet. I started looking at a few different places to figure out the best way to set up my runes. There were a ton of different opinions out there, which was a bit overwhelming at first. I mean, everyone’s got their own way of playing, right?
I started by checking out some popular sites like *, and some other pages that aggregate data from many games. They had all these stats on which runes had the highest win rates with Cho’Gath in ARAM. It was pretty cool to see all that data. Then I compared those suggestions with advice from other players on forums and stuff.
Experimenting in-game
- First Few Games: I started with the most recommended rune setup, which focused on making Cho’Gath super tanky. I went with Grasp of the Undying as the keystone, then threw in things like Demolish and Conditioning.
- Trying Something Different: After a few games, I felt like I wanted more damage. So, I switched it up and tried out Hail of Blades. Yeah, it’s usually for attack speed, but I figured it might be fun for quick bursts. I paired it with Cheap Shot and Ultimate Hunter to see if I could get his ultimate up more often.
- Back to Tanky: Honestly, the Hail of Blades thing was a bit of a flop. It was fun for a game or two, but I just wasn’t getting the same impact as when I was super tanky. So I went back to a more tank-focused build.
After messing around with different setups, I found that sticking to a tankier build really worked best for me in ARAM. I learned that sometimes, the popular choices are popular for a reason. It was a fun little experiment, and I actually started playing Cho’Gath in ARAM more often after that. I used Heartsteel, Mercury’s Treads, and Warmog’s Armor as items. Plus I got good at the skill order of the champ, starting with Q then W and E.
It just goes to show that it’s always worth it to try new things and see what works for you. But also, don’t be afraid to go with what’s tried and true!
