No error message, no new task in my note, just a deafening silence from Obsidian. I’m running the latest version, Obsidian 1.1.16, and QuickAdd 0.11.10, so it should be all good, right?
I thought, “Okay, maybe I messed up the setup.” So, I double-checked everything. The command was set up correctly, the file path was accurate, and yet, QuickAdd refused to do its job. It’s like it decided to take an unexpected vacation day.
Next, I tried a different approach. I went for a more complex script, thinking maybe the simple ones were too simple for it. I was wrong. This time, I got an error message: “Failed to run user script.” Great, at least it’s talking to me now, but that didn’t really solve anything. I needed to fill it manually and that’s not what I wanted.
And some of you might say it’s because QuickAdd is just a plugin to add text to a note, so I shouldn’t expect it to do more. But here’s the thing, even that basic function wasn’t working. I saw some folks online mentioning a known bug, or maybe some conflict with spaces, or even conflict with other plugins, so I started tinkering. I also tried the full power of Javascript and Obsidian functions, but still nothing.
I disabled a bunch of plugins, restarted Obsidian a couple of times, and even sacrificed a rubber chicken to the tech gods (just kidding, but I was getting desperate). Still, QuickAdd remained stubbornly inactive. It’s like trying to wake up a teenager on a Saturday morning – impossible.
At one point, I stumbled upon an error message that said, “QuickAdd: (ERROR) unable to find insert after line in file.” I checked if it’s related to spaces, but it wasn’t. So, I spent a good chunk of my day just trying to figure out what line it was referring to. I even tried to reproduce the error, but I could only get so far.
So, here I am, with my grand plans of a streamlined workflow slightly derailed. QuickAdd, the tool that was supposed to make my life easier, ended up giving me a minor headache. It is just like I’m trying to use this plugin, but I ended up spending more time troubleshooting than actually using it.
