- Then there’s the other stuff, you know, the things you need when you run out. Milk, eggs, bread, toilet paper. They got it all. It’s like a little mini grocery store, right there on the corner. Saves ya a trip to the big supermarket, that’s for sure.

That’s real handy if you run out of somethin’ late at night or if you just get a hankerin’ for a snack. I remember one time, my grandbaby was sick in the middle of the night, needed some medicine. Where did I go? The bodega, of course! They had just what I needed.
They Ain’t Always Perfect, Though.
Now, don’t get me wrong, bodegas ain’t perfect. Sometimes the prices are a little higher than the big stores, but that’s the price ya pay for convenience, I guess. And sometimes they ain’t the cleanest places, but what do ya expect? They’re busy places, lots of people comin’ and goin’. But most of the time, the folks who run ’em are good people, workin’ hard to make a livin’. They’re part of the neighborhood, ya know? They see everything, know everyone.

And that’s the thing about bodegas, they’re more than just a store. They’re a place where people meet, where they chat, where they catch up on the news. It’s a community thing, ya know?
