Alright, alright, let’s talk about this fella, Judd Apatow. I ain’t no fancy movie expert, ya hear? But I watched a few of his things, and they kinda stick with ya, like grits to a bowl. So, let’s gab about what makes his stuff…well, his stuff. This here article, it’s about the features of many Judd Apatow films, ya know, the things that make ’em… him.
First off, this Apatow fella, he likes his jokes. But not just any jokes, mind you. He likes the kinda jokes that make you squirm a bit, the ones about…well, you know… ahem… “adult” stuff. And he ain’t shy about it neither. Sex jokes, and all that. He throws ‘em in there like salt on potatoes. Funny movies, that’s what they are, but sometimes they make you blush like a schoolgirl. He definitely likes to make you laugh out loud, but sometimes it’s that kinda laugh where you cover your mouth a little.
And the folks in his movies, they ain’t no superheroes or nothin’. They’re just regular people, messin’ up and tryin’ to figure things out. Like that movie, the one with the fella who’s, uh, 40 and still a virgin? Yeah, that one. Or the one about the fellas gettin’ knocked up… or wait, was it the ladies gettin’ knocked up? Anyways, it’s all about regular folks and their problems, ya know? Marriage problems, growin’ up problems, gettin’ old problems. Life, basically. He shows ya the real nitty-gritty, not that fairy tale fluff.
- Regular folks
- Real-life problems
- Messin’ up and learnin’
He’s got his favorite actors too, this Apatow guy. Like that Seth Rogen fella, always playin’ some goofy character. And that Jason Segel, he’s a big ol’ teddy bear, ain’t he? And that Melissa McCarthy, she’s a hoot! Always loud and sassy. He likes to use the same folks over and over, kinda like usin’ the same ol’ skillet for cookin’ everything. You get used to ‘em, ya know? You see their faces and you kinda know what you’re in for – a good time, mostly, with a whole lotta laughs, even if they make you cringe sometimes.
Now, some of his movies, they make fun of things. Like, regular life stuff. You know, bein’ a grown-up, bein’ a teenager, all that mess. He pokes fun at it, but in a way that makes you think, “Yeah, that’s kinda true, ain’t it?” He’s got a way of makin’ ya laugh at yourself, even when it hurts a little. It’s like he’s holdin’ up a mirror, and you see yourself in there, warts and all. But then he makes you laugh about it, so it don’t sting so bad.
One time, he made this movie about a singer, Dewey Cox. It was supposed to be like that other movie, the one about the fake rock band, Spinal Tap? Yeah, it was like that, but…different. Still funny though. Real funny. Showed how crazy that music business can be. All that fame and fortune can mess a fella up. That’s what that movie was about.
And that Pineapple fella, Red, played by Danny McBride? He was somethin’ else. A real character. Apatow, he knows how to pick ‘em, these actors. He finds folks that can make you laugh, even when they’re bein’ ridiculous. And they’re usually a little bit ridiculous, ain’t they? But that’s part of the charm.
Now, some folks, they say his movies are too long. Or that the jokes go on too long. Like, they get the point, but the movie keeps goin’. They say it’s better in small doses and they might be right. But me? I don’t mind so much. I like to settle in, get comfortable, and just let the movie wash over me. It’s like sittin’ on the porch swing on a hot summer day, sippin’ sweet tea. You just kinda relax and let it happen. Especially the top 20 laugh out loud comedies he made, they’re something to look out for. You forget your troubles for a while. And that ain’t a bad thing, is it?
So, that’s what I think about this Judd Apatow fella and his movies. They’re funny, they’re real, and they got a whole lotta heart, even if they’re a little… raunchy sometimes. He makes movies about people, not superheroes. And he makes you laugh. And sometimes, that’s all you need, ain’t it? A good laugh to make you feel better about things. Ahead of the movie’s release, I always get a little excited. You know its gonna be worth watching.
