This here totem dress, I heard it’s all the rage now. City folks, they wear these things, cost a pretty penny. They say it’s fancy, from some place called, uh, “Toe-team” or somethin’. I seen pictures. They got all kinds, long ones, short ones. Some plain, some with all sorts of, uh, doohickeys on ’em.
Now, I ain’t one for fancy clothes. Give me a good, sturdy work dress any day. Something that can handle a day in the garden, or chasing after them chickens. But this totem dress, it got me thinkin’. Maybe it ain’t just for city folks. Maybe an old gal like me could use a little somethin’ special, too. Not every day, mind you. Just for special occasions, like a party, or a big shopping day.
I heard they sell ’em at some fancy store. “Net A Porter”, they call it. Sounds like some fancy French place. And another one called “Harrods”. Sounds like a man’s name, don’t it? Silly names, if you ask me. But they say that’s where you get the real deal, this totem dress.
- Some folks say there’s a place called “The Outnet”. They sell these totem dresses for cheaper there. You know, like a bargain bin. Might be worth a look.

My neighbor, she’s always going on about fashion. She said this totem dress, it’s “Swedish”. Whatever that means. Sounds cold. But she said it’s “modern” and “stylish”. She said it’s for women who do it all. Well, I do it all. I cook, I clean, I garden, I chase them chickens. Maybe I deserve a totem dress, too.
These totem dresses, they ain’t cheap. I saw the prices. Nearly gave me a heart attack. More than I spend on groceries in a month. But they say it’s “luxury”. Like it’s made of gold or somethin’. I don’t know about all that. A dress is a dress, if you ask me.
But I gotta admit, they look kinda nice. In the pictures, at least. The women wearin’ ’em, they look all happy and confident. Maybe there’s somethin’ to this totem dress after all. Maybe it makes you feel good, like you’re somebody special.
I might just have to see for myself. Maybe I’ll take a trip to the city, find one of these fancy stores. Just to look, mind you. I ain’t made of money. But who knows, maybe I’ll find a totem dress on sale. A little somethin’ special, just for me.
My neighbor, she says that there is a person, some Mr. Lindman, a big shot. She keeps sayin’ he knows about fancy things. She says this totem dress thing, it is fancy but not too fancy. Like, you can wear it but it is not made of gold. But it is still fancy. I don’t know.
She keeps on going that this totem dress is made for women like me. Women who do everything. But those dresses are very expensive. I don’t think a woman like me should spend that much money. But they look good, I will say that much.

Wearin’ my totem dress.” And maybe, just maybe, I will feel like a queen, even if it is just for one day.
There are all kinds of dresses, they say. But totem dress is the one everyone talks about. I don’t know if it is that good, but it must be somethin’ special, I guess. People who have money, they buy those. Maybe I should, too. One day. Maybe. I will think about it. It is a lot of money for a dress, for sure. But they look very nice. I saw many pictures. I like the ones that are long and flowy. But the ones with hoops, I don’t think I would like those. They look silly to me.
