Remote Features Disabled to Preserve Battery? Understand This Message to Save Energy.
So, the other day, I noticed something weird with my car’s app. It kept showing errors like “remote features disabled to preserve battery” or “vehicle is in deep sleep mode.” It was annoying because I couldn’t use any of the remote functions, like starting the car from my phone. I thought, “What’s going on here?”
I have a 2018 Explorer, and I mostly drive it on weekends. When it sits for a couple of days, the app starts acting up. I even tried putting a battery charger on it, but that didn’t really solve the issue. It would work for a bit, and then the same errors would pop up. It was getting pretty frustrating.
I did some digging around and found out that this is a common thing with some Ford vehicles. They have this “Deep Sleep Mode” that kicks in to save the battery when the car hasn’t been used for a while. To get out of this mode, you gotta start the car manually, either with the push-button start or the key. Apparently, it can take around 20-30 seconds for the car’s modem to reconnect to the app after you start it. I tried this, and it did work, but it was still a hassle.
Another thing I saw was a message on the car’s dashboard saying “Electrical Power Saver Active.” This is another sign that the car is trying to save battery. It’s all part of the same issue, really. It seems like the car’s computer is being a bit too aggressive with its power-saving features.
Here’s what I did to try to keep it awake:
- Start the engine: Yep, just turning on the engine manually seemed to do the trick, at least temporarily.
- Wait a bit: I gave it around 30 seconds after starting the car, just like the forums suggested.
- Checked the app: After waiting, I opened the app again, and most of the time, the remote features were back.
It’s a bit of a pain, to be honest. I mean, the whole point of having these remote features is to make life easier, not more complicated. But, at least now I know what to do when it happens. Hopefully, Ford will come up with a better solution in the future, so we don’t have to keep dealing with this.
