Skittering Runes PoE: Unlock Their Full Potential!

So, I’ve been messing around with this “Skittering Runes” thing in Path of Exile, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride. I heard about it somewhere, sounded interesting, something about curses, so I decided to give it a shot.

First, I went ahead and allocated Skittering Runes on my passive skill tree. It wasn’t too far from where I already was, thankfully. I also tried to put it on my amulet, you know, just to be sure I could use it easily. Then, I socketed a curse into my Profane Proxy ring. The idea was to get that Hex-aura going, so my first hit with Hexblast would be powered up.

I had to do some digging around to figure out where to find this Skittering Runes cluster. It had moved, apparently, now it’s chilling just below Heart of Thunder. I also learned the hard way that triggered curses don’t count as self-casted. Oops.

Then, I was fiddling with mana reservation. I got it to 20% increased efficiency for curse aura skills and a 20% reduction in mana cost for curse skills. This helped a lot with keeping my curses up without running out of mana instantly.

At first, I tried using low-level temp chains, but the area of effect was just too small. I was basically having to stand right next to the monsters to curse them, which is not really ideal in this game, to say the least. You want to be able to curse a whole bunch of enemies from far away so that you don’t die instantly.

After some experimentation, I realized that higher level curses were the way to go. Bigger radius, bigger impact. I was finally able to nuke the whole screen with my curses, and it felt amazing. It was like, BOOM, they’re all cursed, and then BOOM, they’re all dead.

I also equipped a jewel in a socket for Impossible Escape (Iron Will). This was to help me reach the Skittering Runes, and the small hex aoe near it, which is needed for that early AoE boost when you are just starting to use this build.

Skittering Runes PoE: Unlock Their Full Potential!
  • Allocate Skittering Runes on the passive tree.
  • Anoint Skittering Runes on the amulet if possible.
  • Socket a curse in the Profane Proxy ring.
  • Use high-level curses for a larger radius.
  • Utilize mana reservation efficiency to manage the cost of curses.
  • Grab Impossible Escape (Iron Will) to get enough AoE early on.

In the end, I can say that Skittering Runes is definitely worth it, especially for mapping. It turns you into a curse-slinging machine, and who doesn’t love that? You can try other anoints for raw damage if you want, but for me, the huge AoE from Skittering Runes is just way more fun.
