The Right Order of Tarot Cards: How to Organize Your Deck for Effective Readings!
Okay, so, I got into this whole tarot card thing a while back, and at first, I was just shuffling them any old way, you know? But then I started wondering if there was a “right” way to organize them. Turns out, there is! And it’s not just about being neat, it actually helps with readings and stuff.
So, first thing I did was separate the deck into two piles: the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana. Think of the Major Arcana as the big-picture cards, the ones with names like “The Fool” and “The Empress.” The Minor Arcana are more like the everyday stuff, divided into four suits: Cups, Wands, Swords, and Pentacles.
Then I started to arrange my cards, I put all the Major Arcana cards in order, starting with The Fool at number 0 and going all the way up to The World at number 21. Each card has its own meaning. For example, THE WORLD means Assured success, recompense, voyage, route, emigration, flight, change of place. Reversed: Inertia, fixity, stagnation, permanence.

Major Arcana
After sorting the Major Arcana, I moved on to the Minor Arcana. I grouped them by suit and then put each suit in order from Ace to King. There are different opinions, but I learned that following the qabalistic philosophy of the four worlds, the elements in order are fire, water, air, earth, so the right order of the tarot suits is Wands, Cups, Swords. I mean, there’s some debate about the order of the suits in the Minor Arcana, but for me it doesn’t matter that much.
After organizing the cards I tried the three card reading, which usually a fast read, left to right, Past, Present, Future. It’s best used for a fast take on any issue, Sort of a, “Give me the history, current situation and projections while standing on one foot.”
Honestly, getting my tarot deck organized made a huge difference. It felt more respectful to the cards, somehow, and it definitely made my readings feel more focused. If you’re into tarot, I definitely recommend giving it a try!
